So the canon SX50 long zoomer got my photo juices flowin' again... Picked up the Kx, that got me to DPR pentax site and I somehow ended up with the K-01

Really wanted to try the focus peaking on the old manual lenses... and I like the look from that K5 sensor but did not want the k30 as it is too close to the Kx...

Focus peaking is cool... does seem to help with the mf lenses. Still trying to get used to the 'no VF'.... I am liking the DA40 ltd on this thing though...

Nice work Mr. P.

I have focus peaking on my Pentax Q and I can attest that it is a great help with older MF lenses.

always great to see you, Pinkers.
Love those pics, so sharp, and the peaking looks like a great feature for the shallow DOF images to really dial in the focus!!

Wow, I had a FPZ weekend...got to shoot early morning Saturday with BCB and then shared a huge pile of pastrami(with bread) with Mr Pink. I tried the focus peaking on the K-01 and realized my technique needs work, but it is a nice feature.

Great pics but I still have no idea what this 'focus-peaking' business is all about.

How it's done, I don't know but what it looks like - when active - is that things in the viewfinder like say a house will be outlined in something not unlike the 'marching ants' of Photoshop (sort of). You know when it's in focus because these outlines will be sharp. Turn it off and you just have the regular image on the LCD. On a camera like the Pentax Q, it's really quite a help.

I did not realize what focus peaking was either. I thought they were talking about the 6x zoom in you can do to peak at your manual focus.

But as Tim mentioned. I believe it seems to act like a high pass filter, so as you turn the focus ring, whatever is in focus has a white outline on it. You can watch the outline move as you turn the focus ring. For the wide open shallow DOF stuff, along with the 4x and 6x digi zoom, it does seem to help get the critical focus.

For example a tight face shot will have the nose outlined first then the eye lashes and then the eye...

That's the effect exactly. Well said. I wish it was available on my K5!

Thanks for the explanation.

My cameras won't do it either.

Excellent work, and thanks for the focus peeking explanation as well. I was wondering about picking up the K-01...

Wow, I've never seen that one. I would also not have explained it that way as I've never even tried to use it like that on my Q. Ok, I gave that a try on my Q and well, I don't quite get that concept.

Oh...for use with MF! AH...[DING, sound of light switching on]. Now I get that, yes indeed that is one way it works. For me though with older manual lenses I'm really just using it to get better feedback (confirmation) of sharp focus over most of the image on the LCD. For that it's great.

Very cool shots! I also have focus peaking on my nex-7 and at first didn't like it but now I love it, especially when manually focusing.
