sounds like this could be fun....but i may not be able to play. i just put the battery pack in the charger and instead of the light coming on solid, it's blinking continuously. i didn't see anything in the manual about that, but it might be that the pack is shot. i'll leave it in the charger for a few hours and see if i can get the camera to power up. but if the battery pack IS dead, i'm not inclinded to go out and spend $40 for a new one, especially as this contest would be the only time i'd use the camera for SOME time.

Great! FP is with us! Woohoo!

It might take a few days to work out the rules.

How about 3 categories; portrait (human or other living animal), landscape and close up/macro?

Then an 'overall best' and, not to offend, but an 'overall worst' image.
Or are we too sensitive for that kind of criticism/ridicule?

Should we allow any post processing or make it in-camera only?

What camera?

Sony H7. got it in the fall of 2007. it takes a sony specific battery pack, and nothing like the one for my Sony Alpha.
if it works, great. if not....oh well.

well...after taking the battery out and puttting it back in a few times....the light is staying on continuously, like it's supposed to. so we'll see. a "full" charge takes 330 minutes, so i should know before bed time whether i'm gonna be in this.

however, that is presuming i can find something to photograph. i was out saturday and today and shot up something like 150 pics. and you don't see any posted here....so there ya go.

i'm seeing things in the woods that LOOK like they might make a decent pic, but when i get home and download them....not so much. i even had my tripod with me all weekend. but still getting nothing. :~(

Most camera batteries are pretty cheap now.

I was thinking about a 'worst pic' category.

You'd be a winner! :D

thanks. but it's ebay. i kinda don't do ebay.

but the battery seems to be taking a charge. we'll see in an hour or so.

i don't think i could win worst pic either. my pics aren't terrible, they're just ho-hum and very uninteresting. or not quite sharp enough.

You must realize that the best worst picture is a contradiction in itself.

ok....tried the battery.....and it's at half power and the camera appears to be working correctly, after almost 3 years sitting in the box.

so.....how long is this contest going to run? i would suggest more than one week.

how many pics is each poster allowed?

any other requirements or restrictions?

I'll play.
Jeff my advise is keep it simple and stick to your original idea
Take a day or 2 to set it up and bear in mind that some specific rules may deter participation. Build it as a contest that you would want to enter. I'm sure you'll set up something fun!

Thanks for the advice!

The contest will be up by mid week.

Meanwhile, peruse my intended weapon of choice. Found not where I hoped it would be but rather in the bottom box in my closet of boxes. PITA! Was shiny new in 2002 but is looking a little worse for wear these days. But it works!

as far as post-processing goes, I think the goal here is to work within the limits of what the old, crappy camera can do and show how it renders images. Also, some old cameras can shoot RAW and some can't, which gives the RAW shooters an unfair advantage. I'd recommend requiring JPGs straight from the camera, with minimal processing (cropping, rotation, etc).

I toss in getting one shot of the camera itself, just for fun.

a) TW3 is informal and meant for fun, not for award-winning pictures

b) casual participation encourages casual participation. If we only waited for our best work before sharing in TW3, it wouldn't be nearly as much fun

well put, FP. I know the TW3 has become quite competitive, however, I really appreciate it as a window into everyone's daily activities, which most certainly include the casual photos.

that said, i remain amazed at the quality of photos you've shot with your Sony P&S, Mr Pink, including the crater lake/vacation shots, rodeo beach pics, these macros, etc...you apparently really know how to coax some great images from that camera.

I wont be joining the P&S extravaganza, as on our last family vacation, my two boys made it across the rushing creek...but their camera did not. We fished it out of the icy water and it was quite dead after that. :(
